Just been writing press releases and remembered how much I'm looking forward to the Metamorphic gig on 12 June. Hadn't really checked out Røyst, the other band on the bill, and did so to help with the writing. Really sonically interesting - as are Metamorphic. It's going to be a great gig and quite a rare treat to get bands of this stature up in Morecambe. I'm also quite excited about hearing both bands through the new(ish) PA at the Hothouse - it's going to sound great.

NEIL C YOUNG/SOUND GAMES

Two time Grammy Award nominee and rising international jazz guitarist, Neil C Young brings his trio to the first Morecambe Jazz Club of the year. 'Simply beautiful, such beautiful melodies with all the inner movement that just lets everyone have something to listen to' (Michael Kent Smith, US), 'Excellent feel good instrumental jazz' (Keith Ames, Musicians Union).

The sound of games, a game of sounds. Energetic compositions and improvisations inspired directly by sporting activity from the mind of Peter Moser and created for Manchester Jazz Festival in 2012, now reenacted by local Lancaster musicians.
‘He makes you laugh, cry and want to dance... Peter Moser is a brilliant and versatile musician’ (The Guardian)

METAMORPHIC/RYOST

(In a bit of a coup for Lancaster Jazz) The amazing Metamorphic are quiet possibly the most exciting jazz group on the UK jazz scene today, ‘brave, honest and beguiling’ (Jazz UK). ‘Refreshingly femine’ (Jazzwise) songs, improvisation and grooves from Chris Williams, alto sax (Led Bib); John Martin, tenor/soprano sax (The John Martin Quartet); Kerry Andrew, vocals (Juice); Tom Greenhalgh, drums (World Sanguine Report); Paul Sandy, bass (The Dead Victorians); Laura Cole, piano/composer/arranger (Juxtavoices).

Royst are a contemporary vocal trio comprising highly respected Norwegian vocalists/composers Kari Nergaard Bleivik (The Tommy Evans Orchestra; Jazz Yorkshire Vocalist of the Year 2012), Maria Jardardottir (WoCalling) and Cecilie Giskemo (Suzy Q). The trio combine rhythms, textures and improvisations from world music, jazz and folk in their music. Royst has been described as having 'simmering power and surging beauty' (Vibrations Magazine).

WEDNESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2012
THE HOTHOUSE, DEVONSHIRE ROAD, MORECAMBE

We're combining our AGM with the always fantastic Morecambe Jazz Club in a mega post festival party/planning session. It's going to be suitably great and (hopefully) interesting.

AGM from 7pm. If you fancy becoming a member of Lancaster Jazz Festival feel free to come down and find out what's going on. If you are a member come and share you're thoughts and ideas and then we'll go make them happen.

And then, from 8pm, after the controlled mayhem of the festival, a relaxed and local Morecambe Jazz Club with THE INITIATIVE and ORBIT.

THE INITIATIVE are quickly becoming one of the busiest and eclectic music collectives in the North West with an ever growing group of musicians creating brand new music live on stage with the aid of familiar jazz tunes and hooks. Performances can veer wildly from traditional jazz to contemporary European sounds from the exciting three to twelve piece band.

ORBIT is More Music’s community jazz project of 15 years. They meet every Saturday lunchtime at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and perform a mixture of their own material and jazz standards regularly throughout the region. Anyone is welcome to join - contact More Music on 01524 831997 or talk to them at Morecambe Jazz Club.
