My first blog.
My level of excitement just three months after acquiring my beautiful tenor sax, and from a standing start in music, continues to exceed logic.

But this week it’s at risk of climbing even higher.

My guru Paul has decided it is time to invest in a “proper” mouthpiece so off we go on Thursday to find something that lets me slide, rather than burst, into the first note.

What to buy? How much? What difference to that first note? How much more excitement?

David Fatkin - Trustee

David Fatkin has been a Trustee of Lancaster Jazz Festival since the beginning of 2012. After the festival last year David took up the tenor sax, his first instrument, with lessons from another LJF Trustee, Paul Froggatt. A headliner for 2014 perhaps?

WEDNESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2012
THE HOTHOUSE, DEVONSHIRE ROAD, MORECAMBE

We're combining our AGM with the always fantastic Morecambe Jazz Club in a mega post festival party/planning session. It's going to be suitably great and (hopefully) interesting.

AGM from 7pm. If you fancy becoming a member of Lancaster Jazz Festival feel free to come down and find out what's going on. If you are a member come and share you're thoughts and ideas and then we'll go make them happen.

And then, from 8pm, after the controlled mayhem of the festival, a relaxed and local Morecambe Jazz Club with THE INITIATIVE and ORBIT.

THE INITIATIVE are quickly becoming one of the busiest and eclectic music collectives in the North West with an ever growing group of musicians creating brand new music live on stage with the aid of familiar jazz tunes and hooks. Performances can veer wildly from traditional jazz to contemporary European sounds from the exciting three to twelve piece band.

ORBIT is More Music’s community jazz project of 15 years. They meet every Saturday lunchtime at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and perform a mixture of their own material and jazz standards regularly throughout the region. Anyone is welcome to join - contact More Music on 01524 831997 or talk to them at Morecambe Jazz Club.

It's less than 4 months to Lancaster Jazz Festival 2012!

We're going to be announcing the full festival programme on the 1st July here on lancasterjazz.com as well as in print but we're letting members in on a sneak peak at a General Meeting on Wednesday 27th June, 7.30pm at The Gregson Centre, Moor Lane, Lancaster.

We'll be running through the festival programme for this year as well as everything we've been up to and hopefully getting your feedback
We want your ideas for things we can do (around the music programme) at this years festival to make it bigger and better
Bring your ideas and thoughts about the future of Lancaster Jazz Festival
We will be formally setting up as a charity with a brand new constitution in order to register as a charity and to ensure the long term stability of Lancaster Jazz Festival
And you'll get to meet our lovely board (below - not quite as scary in real life)

Membership of Lancaster Jazz Festival is just £10 at the moment (normally £20). Sign up at any Lancaster Jazz Festival event (this could include the meeting).

Oh and don't forget the amazing MORECAMBE JAZZ CLUB on the 20th June. 7.30pm at The Hothouse. Two amazing guitarists in the form of Dierdre Cartwright and Kathy Dyson with support for just £5.
Members buy 2 tickets and get 1 FREE!
See you there!

Lancaster Jazz Festival is looking for three trutees to fill the vacant positions on the board.
We’re heading effectively into our second year and are looking to establish ourselves as a premier contemporary jazz festival in the UK with great artists from around the country (as well as locally), great original artistic works and great community links.  We’re looking for additional trustees who are committed and passionate people who want to see an exciting and original annual jazz festival in Lancaster.
If you're interested then download the application pack and send the completed form to us by the 20th January.

In the new year we're going to be putting out a call for artist submissions for the 2012 festival as well as launching Friends of Lancaster Jazz. This is where you'll be able to have a real say about what we do and what we promote as well as receiving news about the festival before anyone else and receiving some benefits as a thank you for your interest.

We look forward to hearing from you and we hope you have a fantastic new year.
See you in 2012!
