Fiona Talkington describes her role in festivals...
"I'm not a promoter, but a curator, so I would work with someone or an organisation who would take budgetary responsibility (in consultation with myself), and what is hugely important to me is the relationship with musicians, one of honesty and trust and respect, listening to ideas and dreams, being a sounding board etc. I think it really helps not to be part of an organisation, but of course it has disadvantages too.
For smaller festivals I feel it is my 'duty' when I have the opportunity of getting to know the people behind the festival, to really understand what makes them tick, where they are coming from, and try and support them - in the media or wherever - in an appropriate way. As with most things, it is about building up personal relationships."
