I write this just after bouncing a hundred emails back and forward in an attempt to cue ourselves up for our annual call for submissions. I thought it might be good to just run through how it’s all going to work - we want to support artists as much as possible so we’re hoping it’ll be clearer, easier and faster than ever.
1. OPEN PROGRAMME.
This forms the core of Lancaster Jazz Festival programming in our main spaces. If you’re a career musician, if you’re an artist with an idea, if you’re a community group, if you represent a pro band or whatever else then get in touch.
We’re doing our very best to make the process as simple and as easy as possible whilst balancing that with getting enough stuff to make our lives when programming easier. We get hundreds of submissions and we really do listen to everything - takes ages and it's great! (If you can help us out though by not being generic in descriptions or by providing working links to tracks that would be amazing).
Obviously, we can’t programme everything that comes in (and we’re really sorry to those that have applied every year so far and we haven’t been able to find you anything yet), there’s some great stuff we simply don’t have the resources to put on, or the right space to do the music justice. Please don’t be put off though - we’re more prepared and bigger than ever.
2. YOUTH JAZZ COMMISSION
This was awesome last year with Leo Geyer.
If you’re an emerging artist under the age of 25 with a great idea we’ll pay, support and guide you through making it happen with a premier performance at Lancaster Jazz Festival 2015.
It’ll all go live on Friday here at www.lancasterjazz.com complete with supporting guidance and our actual internal programming policy document that shows you exactly how we programme in case you're interested - if you ain't and just want to fill out the form though it should be self explanatory, and take no more than a 5 minutes. If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to comment, email or tweet and we’ll respond asap.
Happy new year!
