It was the best Lancaster Jazz Festival we've ever made by a mile and by far the one I'm most proud of.
And what's really exciting is that we know how to do better - how to grow - what the next steps are - watch this space...
The first Lancaster Jazz Festival where I was really quite sad when it ended - let's just keep going into next week! It was truly awesome and artist focussed and lovely - a celebration of contemporary music that broke down barriers and made extraordinary performances accessible, exciting and inspiring. Watching a few hundred people, from passing postmen to legendary musicians to ten year olds, be transfixed by some really out-there, challenging music is really special.
There are hundreds of people who have supported us, worked with us, funded us, carried mic stands with cold hands in very early morning and taken us to task when we've dropped a ball. They all made Lancaster Jazz Festival. They're all awesome and they all need to be thanked and congratulated - you wonderful people - you know who you are!
To all our artists, funders, sponsors, partners, volunteers, tech crews, venues and their staff, everyone who's helped and advised us, our members, and of course the best 4000+ jazz audience in the country - THANK YOU!
It was our fifth birthday and we're just warming up - there's a giddy festival team full of ideas already looking forward to making the next one... watch this space...
