Deep Cabaret Vox present Cante Jondo: An Improvatorio
The singers open their mouths and sound secret places. Cante Jondo. Nourished by dissonant drones and pizzi catos  those secret places secrete their own desires. Till those very desires voice their own secret places in songs unheard till this moment. Cante Jondo. Eventually, a secret, a desire, resonates deep inside and you, the listener, hear the sound of your own voice singing you. Cante Jondo.

Cante Jondo is an improvatorio (improvised oratorio) especially created for Lancaster Jazz Festival by Lancaster's own leftfield musician Deep Cabaret (aka Steve Lewis). His work consistently surprises, inspires and entertains, never more so than when it involves Deep Cabaret Vox.

DC Vox is a loose collective of vocalists and instrumentalists brought together by Steve  to create one-off performances of collectively improvised vocal events. Previous projects like Hearing Voices and Flocking have involved the likes

Improvatorio by deep cabaret
of Phil Minton, Maggie Nicols and Cleveland Watkiss.  Cante Jondo will include a string orchestra of players drawn from Lancaster's jazz and folk communities and feature the voices of Steve Lewis, Beth Allen and others yet to be announced.

“ Really wonderful. ..The voice work was top notch….. so too was the concept and the improvisatory interactions.”

“ I went the gamut of emotions, but in particular laughed a lot …..with pleasure  at the way they conspired to weave these fantastic moments out of the air.”
