An exceptional group of up-and-coming jazz musicians from Leeds, Wandering Monster have been awarded the opportunity to perform at a number of high profile jazz festivals across The North through the Jazz North Introduces scheme.
Wandering Monster, led by double bassist Sam Quintana, is the latest beneficiary of this pioneering mentorship and support scheme for talented young jazz musicians up to the age of 25. Selected by a panel of festival directors and professional musicians, Wandering Monster impressed with their strong ensemble sound and adventurous material.
Since it’s inception in the autumn of 2014, Wandering Monster has honed a sound which demonstrates a combination of intricately arranged off-kilter grooves, in your face hooks and lengthy collective improvisation sections. Influences taken from the rhythmic complexity of modern jazz are juxtaposed with the intensity of classic blue note recordings.
Sam Quintana says
“I am thrilled that Wandering Monster have been awarded this opportunity. Since the band's formation two years ago we have developed a set of original material which I am really excited to showcase at some of the UK's best jazz festivals. Thanks to the scheme we are able to perform our music to bigger and more diverse audiences and I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for our group”.
