Tagné Tebu piano / Job Kayembe bass / Helena Summerfield flute, saxophone / Myke Wilson drums
Born and raised in Cameroon, Tagné has worked with musicians from many different cultures and musical backgrounds. His music blends African melodies and grooves with jazz and Western harmony and is based on African storytelling on the themes of love, war and peace, conveying a bitter-sweet sense of melancholy balanced by irrepressible optimism.
Tagné is strongly influenced by his Cameroonian background and jazz training, and also immerses himself in the soundscapes of Latin American and Asian music, as well as African and European music – all underpinned by a conviction in the importance of studying, and celebrating, our similarities rather than our differences.
Sat 14 Sep, 1.40pm performance
