Evolve commission – call out

8.11.21

Lancaster Jazz Festival is excited to announce our new Evolve commission series, funded by PRS Foundation.

We are launching an open call for an artist to participate in this first series, with commissions to be premiered at Lancaster Jazz Festival in September 2022.

The series is designed to ignite an evolution for artists, both in their creative practice and their career, and is supported by a digital residency.

The brief for the commission is flexible so you can tailor it to fit with what feels like an evolution and development opportunity for you as an artist.

Our only stipulation is that the commission is linked to Lancaster in some way – either an influential place or piece of scenery, its history, a connection with the community etc. This ‘link’ could be almost anything, we’d like it to reflect your interests and inspirations and can make introductions or suggestions to support this.

The digital residency will include a series of peer network sessions with the other Evolve artists, as well as 1-1 coaching, production advice and ongoing support from the Lancaster Jazz Festival team.

We will also invite you to visit us in person in Lancaster to further explore your link to the city, meet collaborators and spend time with the festival team.

There is a £1500 commission fee for writing the piece. There is additional paid time to attend the digital residency events and for your research trip to Lancaster, for which we will also cover travel and accommodation costs as required.

The piece will be performed as part of the 2022 Lancaster Jazz Festival, performance fees for the premiere would be additional to the commission fee.

Lancaster Jazz Festival believes that access to jazz should be available for everyone, and strives to ensure that all areas of our work reflects and embraces the diversity of cultures and experiences of our artists, audiences and team. We welcome applications from anyone and if you require support to submit your application, or identify barriers in our processes we encourage you to contact us.
