PAUL FROGGATT - Benefactor, Youth Jazz Commission Having tragically lost my wife in 2015, I decided that I would mark her memory by doing something which I had always admired other people doing: becoming a philanthropist. I found this to be an enlightening experience - there is so much take in this world and here I was giving unreservedly. In the run up to the 2017 Festival there was an outside chance that the Youth Jazz Commission project would have to be terminated. Having witnessed the results over the previous years, and as Sally was a great believer in giving young people opportunities, I couldn’t allow this to happen; so here was my chance to support this worthy element of the festival. In 2017, the Lancaster Jazz Festival Members awarded the Youth Jazz Commission to the vibraphonist and composer Ralph Wyld. As with the previous commissions, the interest in the unexpected was tremendous, the music sparkled, the musicians smiled and I felt a sense of exhilaration in knowing that I had supported this performance.
