Live Evil

Kanteena Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes

Emerging from the consistently inventive and exciting Leeds scene, Live Evil embraces and interprets the music of Miles Davis’s electric period. This began with the much lauded In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew, and included overlooked classics like On the Corner and Pangaea.

With a front line of saxophone and bass clarinet/flute (and notably no trumpet), the band uses Miles’s compositions as launching pads for long-form, collective improvisations which are simultaneously abstract, funky, violent and introspective.

The shards of Miles’s electric sound can be heard throughout the UK jazz scene and this reinterpretation of that landmark era sounds totally relevant and fresh.
This is an absolute monster of a band and they will deliver a huge joyous slab of early- electric-Miles-inspired funk to close off our weekend at the Kanteena.

Joel Stedman: Flute, bass clarinet and percussion
