Following last year’s sell-out live soundtrack Halloween performance of Nosferatu at Morecambe’s Winter Gardens, Off the Rails Creative Jazz Orchestra returns with an improvised live score for the German Expressionist classic, Waxworks.
A creepy, down-at-heel wax museum provides the main characters for a sequence of three increasingly sinister stories. Stylised sets, fantastical costumes, and dramatic lighting combine to create a classic of Weimar cinema, which will be complemented by Off the Rails’ atmospheric improvisations.
Off the Rails Creative Jazz Orchestra have been gathering musicians from Lancaster, Morecambe and beyond to make exploratory music with soul since 1997.
For this performance, Off the Rails is collaborating with Jonny Best, one of the UK’s leading silent film pianists and the Artistic Director of No Dots which produces a programme of live-scored silent film at Morecambe Winter Gardens.
Thanks also to Yorkshire Silent Film Festival for their support on this project www.ysff.co.uk.
