Family Band was formed in 2015, born out of a desire to work with the freer, more open structures, often facilitated by this classic chord-less line-up. The quartet’s writing is largely inspired by the spirituality of some 1960’s avant-garde jazz, especially that of Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett and John Coltrane, with the shape of the live performances being left up to the sensibilities of the individual band members on stage. The band recently released their excellent eponymous debut album. This is music to feel, rather than think, your way through.
