Matt is a professional internationally touring musician, experienced event producer, recent Clore Leader participant, and founder of Lancaster Jazz Festival in 2011. After graduating from Leeds College of Music many years ago, Matt now spends his time both at Lancaster Jazz Festival and More Music creating and enabling music projects that aim to inspire artists and communities, he is also a trustee of Jazz North.
Dave Shooter / executive producer
Dave has been part of the Lancaster Jazz Festival Team from the outset, he was involved in putting on the first post-council Lancaster Jazz Festival in 2009 and has been Producer of the Festival in its current, ever-evolving guise since 2011. Dave previously worked for Virgin Megastores for 15 years as a Store Manager and the Jazz Buyer. He also worked on the development of the original Megastores e-commerce platform, managed the Web Content Team and led the Digital Business Development Team. Since 2005 Dave has worked as a Musician, Educator, and Community Musician.
Lucy Woolley / festival manager
Lucy embarked on a rollercoaster journey of life in the music sector almost 15 years ago. A few tours, festivals and numerous cups of coffee later, she now splits her time between events management, artist development and programme curation, finding a home in the jazz sector. When not working, Lucy can be found watching gigs, dog walking or in her natural habitat finding ways to do more work.
Jack Bond / marketing & audience development manager
Jack joined the Festival Team as a Marketing & Audience Development Intern in 2014 before later promoting himself to Manager on the basis that there were no other marketing members of the team at the time. He has worked on the past four festivals during which time he has slowly been coming to terms with the fact he may actually rather enjoy jazz. Jack has worked within arts marketing for the last six years and is currently a marketing officer with Lancaster City Council. As a musician, Jack peaked age 10 with a Grade 1 Distinction on the clarinet but hasn’t wet a reed for the best part of two decades.
Iona Lane / programme manager
Iona joined the team in 2016 to mainly work on social media before moving on to managing our artist development programmes. Iona is currently studying Folk Music at Leeds College of Music however enjoys all kinds of music including contemporary jazz, progressive rock and bluegrass. Iona regularly attends gigs and loves experiencing live music. Iona is very northern and will probably almost always be drinking a brew (extra strong Yorkshire tea with a dash of milk). She is also an avid coffee drinker - which seems to be a running trait amongst the whole Festival Team!
Fergus Walsh / company administrator
Studying to become a theoretical physicist throughout high school, Fergus left sixth form in 2014 and settled into a far cooler job of training towards ACCA membership at an accountancy firm in Garstang. He joined the Festival Team in 2016 as a festival assistant to free up capacity in production and planning, and built an almost sentient spreadsheet that told everyone what to do. His role now involves assisting with the financial reporting and proofreading things Matt writes after his eighth coffee of the morning. Having been involved in music from a young age, Fergus spends his free time performing at, running or attending gigs. From playing bass in a four-piece pretentious-metal-improv-thing, to jumping around in the horn section of carnival bands and cover bands.
Lucy Banks / festival assistant
I grew up listening to Britney Spears, Steps and any other teeny bop that came with dance moves…. “So why are you involved with a Jazz Festival?” I hear you ask… allow me to explain. I joined in with the festival initially as just a helping hand for the Festival Team, I was intimidated by the genre Jazz and just helped out on the door, too scared to poke my head in to any of our gigs. Now, after years of being on the team, I get excited by what we programme and I know jazz was never anything to be frightened of! On the weekend of the festival you will see me running from venue to venue with a camera filming and documenting the festival, you may also see me interviewing our lovely artists. If you see me come and say hi to me and my camera.
Sophy Colbert / festival assistant
Sophy is a keen attendee at gigs and concerts of all flavours, despite reportedly having no musical talent herself. She joined the Festival Team in 2018 as a digital foot soldier, Jack and the Team with the website and email newsletters. In her day job, Sophy tries to make websites easier to use. She spends her free time listening to music, eating hummous and hoovering up cat hair. She always has snacks.
